09 Jun IE Students Promote Local Business Through Innovative Digital Marketing Strategy

In today’s digital landscape, a well-designed website and customer-centered social media channels are essential for any business owner. Our class on Digital Marketing & Social Media – taught by IE Professor and digital media guru Jon Oleaga – not only introduced us to the essentials of running an e-commerce website but gave us the opportunity to work with a local business in need of digital marketing advice. This is where we met Sonia Trenado.
The first time we met Sonia, she was getting off work as we were finishing our classes for the day. Tired after a long day, she sat down and told us about her artisan woodwork business that she operated from her house. She proceeded to show us her modern-looking business page filled with great images of her products, which she mentioned was done by students from the previous Master in Visual & Digital Media program.
As the meeting progressed, we dove into her new business needs: an overall digital and social media strategy to promote her business online.
So, this is what we did: A six-member team from different cultural backgrounds and areas of expertise devised a social media strategy for a Madrid-based small business owner with a tight budget.
The overall experience was enlightening and gave us hands-on experience on what it is to be a digital marketing consultant. At the same time, it was nice to know we were able to make a positive impact on a local business in Madrid.
