Pre-Semifinal Phase for the Second Edition of the Social Innovation Awards, MAPFRE Foundation

Written by: Gustavo F-Mazarambroz, Director of Mapfre Foundation Awards

After receiving hundreds of applications for the second edition of the Social Innovation Awards by MAPFRE Foundation boosted by IE, we have just started the selection phase. We spent 2 months intensely analysing those candidacies who applied to win in our three categories: e- Health, Insurance Innovation & Sustainable Mobility and Road Safety.

The first of the several rounds focuses on eligibility criteria (formal material and geographical requirements; human resources; maturity & financial items). 90% of candidacies passed this first round last month.

Over the next 2 months we are doing a deep evaluation of the following criteria: potential for social impact; innovation; project viability; prototype; and the ability and experience of the team. 75 projects will pass the second round, after being analysed by IE professors and experts from each vertical. We ought to say that the overall quality of the applications, compared to the first edition, is noticeably higher. Really interesting and attractive projects all of them.

The third round consists of an evaluating commission, where social impact experts, specialists from each vertical, potential mentors and members of staff will analyse those 75 candidacies in order to define the semi-finalists that compete in each region and for a place in the final.

In a few weeks we will be able to announce the 27 semi-finalists that will defend their projects in Mexico DC; Sao Paulo and Madrid, after receiving mentoring from expert professionals, an expensed trip to the semi-final and exposure to other great innovators.

Good luck and thank you. It’s an honour helping those people that are changing the World
