Red Innova, a Global Community of Social Innovators

Written by: Laura McDermott, Designer of Red Innova

“Red Innova is a community of social innovators connected with the Premios Fundación MAPFRE a la Innovación Social, boosted by IE. It’s a community that thrives on the exchange of expert knowledge and peer support, so that social impact projects can flourish worldwide.”

Last week we officially launched Red Innova, after months of getting to know our members, listening to their experiences and brainstorming ideas together. (For those of you who don’t speak Spanish, “red” in this case does not apply to the colour. In fact, “red” in Spanish translates to “network” in English and “innova”, well, that speaks for itself).

Having lead the design of the community, I’ve developed a strong connection to our members, who dedicate so much of their time and energy to creating social impact on a global scale. With every conversation, Skype call, or meetup, I learn more about the world surrounding each project and the challenges they have overcome.

It is with this deep understanding of our members and their needs that we design events, activities, knowledge-sharing initiatives and training from experts at IE. We believe that this is what is most important to the sustainability of Red Innova; meaningful engagement, connection to like-minded people and collaboration. Although it’s early days, we have a stimulating line-up of activities planned in the community for the next few months, and I’m delighted to be a part of them.

What’s perhaps most fulfilling about managing Red Innova is the enthusiasm of our members. Many of us – especially the Fundación MAPFRE and IE Social Innovation teams – have seen the “get up and go” attitude of our members at the semi-final and final phases of the awards. It’s a gift to be able to continue to collaborate with such passionate individuals on an ongoing basis, while also helping social innovation to flourish worldwide.
